We were divided into 6 groups; 4 individual; our group consist of Lyn, Siti Nurbaiti, Dalveender and I. We were supposed to present on “Open Source Software and ICT”. So, what is it all about?
Open Source Software is something that can be modified, as this design is publicly asses able. A source code is a part of a software where most computer users could not see the code that computer programmers use to manipulate, improve, add and fix. The source code can be modified or enhance by anyone with the knowledge. In other words, open source software is a software which anyone can download without having to purchase a license, for free. One of the few open source software there is, include of Wikipedia.
ICT on the other hand, the acronym ICT stands for Information Communication Technology. ICT is a communication device or application that is used by many. The importance of ICT lies less in the technology itself than in its ability to create greater access to information and communication in undeserved populations. One of the few ICT devices is, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Skype and so on. ICT can be used in education, communication, business, and entertainment. In the education context, ICT can be used for both formal and non-formal classes because it can be used anytime, anywhere, students can access to remote learning resources where students no longer have to rely on printed materials, help to improve the quality of education and at the same time motivate the students to study.
ICT and Open Source Software should be used properly as it is an application to help make life easier. We should not misuse it and should equip ourselves with the right knowledge and techniques. I hope this information could enlighten anyone who is reading this right now a bit about ICT and Open Source Software.
